Area Description:
Including: Redonda Island, Cortes Island, Quadra Island
"Each summer, pods of resident orcas and lone transients congregate in the waters of Johnstone Strait to feed on salmon, socialize and rub on the pebble beaches of Robson Bight. Similarly, each summer thousands of boaters, kayakers and whale watchers congregate to watch these magnificent mammals in the wild. As paddling experiences go, nothing rivals paddling with the orcas - an awesome event that mixes inspiration, exhilaration, and even fear. The area, however, offers a lot more for the true explorer, and a journey into the protected waters north of Johnstone Strait will unleash a world of small bays, protected coves and ancient village sites. It is an area rich in history, wildlife and above all beauty." Taken from Kayak Routes of the Pacific Northwest Coast
