Paddle the 18th Annual BCMTA Ocean Kayak Marathon



Marathon Entry Form

When is it?
July 13, 2008

Who Can Participate:
The marathon is open to recreational ocean touring kayaks only. Participants must be familiar with rescue techniques. All participants must register, and all ages are welcome.

On Event Day
Check in begins at 8:00am. Racers meeting is at 8:45am. The race begins at 9:30am sharp. Lunch begins when the last racer arrives, and Draw Prizes are after lunch.

Kayak Requirements:
Ocean Kayaks only (14' to 25' long by 19" to 45" wide) with secure buoyancy, spare paddle, pump, and buoyant heaving line. All participants must wear a PFD with a whistle. All kayaks will be inspected by course officials to determine if kayaks meet course safety requirements. Event officials reserve the right to refuse entry and/ or eligibility for any reason.

Categories of the Event:
5 km recreational route, 10 km Marathon: Single Kayak - Men's, Single Kayak - Women's, Double Kayak - Overall, Skin Kayak - Overall.

5 km Course:
Jericho Beach to the Maritime Museum and back (est. time = 1 hour)

10 km Course:
Jericho Sailing Center, along the shores of English Bay to the red and green buoys off Kits Point, to the buoy off Second Beach and then back to the Jericho Sailing Center. (est. time = 1 to 3 hours)

Entry Fees:
Prior to Race Day: Each Person (with own kayak) = $30, single kayak rental = $30 Double kayak rental = $40. Registration closes at 5:00pm on TBA, and entry space is limited so sign up now!

Fee Includes:
Entry fees include an event T-shirt, lunch, draw prizes, registration, and freebies. Entry fees for kayak rentals include all Coast Guard required equipment and kayak, as well as the above mentioned.

Jericho Sailing Center
1300 Discovery Street,
Vancouver, BC
(on the east side of the compound on the beach)

Parking:
Parking is available for $5 for the day. You may also drop off your kayak and then drive to Locarno Beach where there is free parking available for the day. You may want to bring your bike to bike back towards the race site at Jericho Beach.

Pre-Race Training:
Train with your friends. Ecomarine offers paddling races every Thursday night at Jericho. Follow this link for more info.
