Course Description:
Increase your comfort level on the water by improving your ability to control and manage your kayak. By introducing edging to your strokes you will improve their efficiency and reduce the amount of effort required to maneuver your boat. Bracing skills will allow you to recover when thrown off balance and avoid a possible capsize. These skills are necessary to increase your comfort and safety while paddling in rough seas. We will introduce you to the bow recovery the first step in working towards rolling a kayak. This is a great opportunity to build up your comfort level upside down underwater in your kayak.

A few years ago, right after the bracing/edging class, I got caught by surprise by a big rear-corner wave off Benson Island and the kayak flipped sideways. I kicked the combing up with my knee and "squashed the bug" with my paddle. I was elated it worked - and ever since then I have always said bracing/edging was the best class I ever took" ...NORM SMITH
