There are two main paths available to people looking for careers on the water; guiding and instructing. All ocean kayak instructors in Canada are certified by Paddle Canada, while ocean kayak guides have a choice of 3 certifying bodies. Although there is some cross over between guiding and instructing certifications, it is very limited. The courses that Ecomarine offer are all Paddle Canada Instructor courses, and certification is recognized nation-wide.
Whichever direction you decide to go your first step will be to get out on the water and build up a solid foundation of paddling and rescue skills. Ecomarine offers many courses that teach you all the skills you will need to participate in any of the multi-day instructional or guiding programs listed. Each organization requires that you maintain an active membership by paying a yearly fee, providing copies of a first aid ticket, a VHF radio operators license (get your certificate through us!) and submit yearly log books or course reports.
