Ecomarine Coastal Kayak School has been safely putting paddlers on the water for over 30 years. We offer a wide range of beginner courses so you can learn at a pace that suits you. Once you have built a solid foundation it is time to move on to our intermediate and advanced programs. Here you will be taught how to safely paddle in more remote and challenging regions. We not only teach you how to paddle, but also provide opportunities to use what you have learned. Ecomarine offers paddling clubs, season's passes, clinics, seminars and much more. We can help you go kayaking whenever and wherever you wish.
Beginner Lessons
Ecomarine Coastal Kayaking School offers three options for recreational programming designed to give a new or inexperienced paddler a solid introduction to ocean kayaking.
Spend 1 weekend, 4 evenings, or 6 evenings with a daytrip, learning the skills needed to enjoy a few hours or a full day on the water on your own.
For those not yet sure if kayaking is for them, we offer a 2 hour taster program that will introduce you to the many interesting avenues that open up to you once seated in a kayak. From relaxation to fitness to adventuring, there is something appealing for everyone; let us help you discover your passion for paddling.

Navigation Lessons
Our three part navigation series offers an introduction to the skills necessary to plan and navigate safely on a day or multi-day trip. These are dry land courses that introduce the chart, compass, tide & current book and marine weather forecast. We will provide basic theory behind the tides, currents and weather to give you a greater understanding of their working.

Youth Kayak Lessons and Camps
Ecomarine offers specially designed youth programs for kids aged 8-16 years. Our 5 day summer camps teach the same skill set as our adult programs but information is presented in an entertaining and fun way, with lots of games and playful activities. Safety on the water is our primary concern, and all of out youth instructors are certified by Paddle Canada and hold valid first aid tickets. Over the past 28 years we have introduced thousands of youth to the sport of ocean kayaking.

Intermediate Lessons
Once you have learned your basic kayaking and rescue skills it is time to learn how to really control your boat and get comfortable both upright and upside down. In our intermediate programs we expand on your skills as we move into more challenging paddling conditions including moderate seas and moving water.

Advanced Lessons
In order to safely travel to remote areas by kayak you will need to hone your touring skills. These courses offer an opportunity to learn in a wilderness setting. You will have a chance to learn and practice your navigation skills, practice rescues in more challenging conditions and be introduced to paddling in tidal rapids and surf zones. You are required to have the appropriate Paddle Canada prerequisites to particiate in these programs.

Private Lessons
Choose to be introduced to paddling or improve your skills under the focused, gentle guidance of our experienced instructors. We can personalize our programs to progress at your pace. Bring your friends, family, or co-workers and learn together. We can teach any age and ability. Private programs can be run for one to six people and must be booked with advanced notice.

Instructor and Guide Certification Courses
There are two main paths available to people looking for careers on the water; guiding and instructing. All ocean kayak instructors in Canada are certified by Paddle Canada, while ocean kayak guides have a choice of 3 certifying bodies. Although there is some cross over between guiding and instructing certifications, it is very limited.
