Course Description:
Our Day Tripper Weekend allows a novice kayaker to build on the skills gained in the Beginner Kayaking program. Day one is based at Jericho Beach where we will refine your strokes by incorporating edging, deepen your understanding of rescue techniques and introduce some new strokes to create better paddling efficiency. We will also delve into navigation for day-tripping including chart reading, route finding, tides, and weather. Day Two we will embark on a full day trip to one of our fantastic local paddling destinations.We will incorporating our newly learned navigation skills and practice leadership and decission making along the way. Completion of a Beginner Weekend or Beginner Series program, or equivalent skills, is a pre-requisite for this course. Prerequisites:
- Comfort and control while capsizing a kayak
- Efficient assisted re-entry skill
- Efficient forward paddling
- Basic boat and gear knowledge
- 16 years of age
Certification:
- Solo Re-Entry Card
- Paddle Canada Level One Certification available upon request (more information).
