Course Description:
Currents Weekend
The coast of British Columbia is known for its dynamic waters but from the seat of a kayak moving water can be intimidating. Over two days we will introduce you to reading current, picking your path and moving efficiently through moving water. We will start by reviewing paddling skills essential to kayaking in currents including rescues, edging and bracing. We will learn how to identify features of moving water and how your kayak will respond to them. Finally we will pull this all together with practice crossing eddy lines into the current, ferrying across moving channels and eddy hopping against the current. These skills are essential for safe touring along the coast. Participate in a Currents Weekend and build towards completing our Paddle Canada Level Two Skills Assessment weekend.
