THE GREAT BEAR RAINFOREST
The Great Bear Rainforest of coastal British Columbia is one of the most special places on earth. British Columbia contains 25% of the worlds temperate rainforest and most are areas which have not been touched since the last glaciers left the land. Magical ecosystems and rarely visited areas await the explorer. This is the only place in the world that holds the rare Spirit Bear, found on a handful of islands in the Northern Great Bear Rainforest. Coastal wolves, Black Bears, Grizzlies, Bald Eagles and Sitka Deer inhabit this rainforest amongst thousand year old cedars and spruce trees while Humpback and Killer Whales, Stellar Sea Lions and Dall’s Porpoises can be found in the rich waters of the Pacific Ocean. August and September are breathtaking months on the coast as the “miracle of life,” the annual salmon run begins in the thousands of coastal rivers. Join us for an intimate experience with the wildlife and native people of this coast on our hut to hut sea kayaking expedition.
